Club 3 – 16 Goes Online

With the closure of the educational institutions, the Klabb 3-16 in the centers too had to be suspended. To make up for this interruption in service, the Foundation for Educational Services is offering service users the possibility of following online activities with the Playworkers of their centers, and live HW assistance with warranted teachers.

Parents / legal guardians who are already registered for the service, and would like their children to follow the online activities, are to contact the Centre Coordinator of their respective center and inform him, so that they will be given a link to access the activities. The same applies for the LIVE online HW assistance.

Parents / legal guardians who are not registered with the service, are encouraged to send an email to programmes.fes@gov.mt to be guided on how to apply for the service.

These two modes of communication are being offered in a bid to maintain contact with the students, and also help them with their academic work. All the services are being offered free of charge, including the HW assistance.

X’hemM għal Dinja Aħjar

The Science Centre within the Directorate for Learning and Assessment Programmes recently launched the 10th edition of the annual STEM initiative entitled X’hemM għal Dinja Aħjar. A total of 33 Primary Schools are participating in this engaging Mathematics and Science outreach initiative.

The X’hemM programme at Dingli Primary School, entitled Working Towards a More Sustainable School… X’hemM? Dingli Primary, is a whole-school initiative and has been on-going since the end of October 2020. The Breakfast Club survey carried out by a Yr 6 class, targeted the amount of pre-packaged food that is being wasted every morning during Breakfast Club at school. Some children do not eat the food that is currently being distributed and consequently much food is going to waste, every day. The survey was administered by the students, who used their tablets, and results were depicted through graphs and pie-charts. The students investigated and assessed the types of food that are not being eaten and why, and also, how much food is being wasted. The findings of the survey identified important issues; these were discussed and realistic solutions were planned. The students proposed these solutions and gave recommendations to the Minister for Education and Employment Hon. Dr Justyne Caruana and the Minister for the Environment and Climate Change Hon Dr Aaron Farrugia.  Their aim was to raise environmental awareness, even amongst other schools.
